{"id":447,"date":"2013-05-23T19:10:11","date_gmt":"2013-05-23T19:10:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trafficsafetystore.com\/blog\/?p=447"},"modified":"2013-05-23T19:10:11","modified_gmt":"2013-05-23T19:10:11","slug":"drive-safe-memorial-day-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.trafficsafetystore.com\/blog\/drive-safe-memorial-day-weekend\/","title":{"rendered":"Drive Safe This Memorial Day Weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"Yes! \u00a0Summer is finally here, and you&#8217;re ready to pack up your car and head to your closets shore point. \u00a0Before you pack that speedo and hop onto the highway&#8211;you need to remember to drive safely. \u00a0This coming holiday weekend is one of the deadliest traveling holidays during the year, and the statistics don&#8217;t lie. \u00a0You don&#8217;t want to be another tragic number this Memorial Day Weekend.\n\nThe Memorial Day holiday weekend\u00a0begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 25, and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 28th. \u00a0In 2011,\u00a0<b>AAA<\/b>\u00a0estimated <a title=\"AAA\" href=\"http:\/\/fleetowner.com\/blog\/holiday-traffic-and-highway-deaths\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">32.1 million travelers on the Memorial Day weekend<\/a>, which was a significant increase over the 5.4% travel volume in 2009. \u00a0AAA also found that 87% of the Memorial Day weekend travel\u00a0occurs\u00a0in automobiles. \u00a0Which means that 28 million people hit the road on this particular holiday weekend. \u00a0In fact,\u00a0<a title=\"INRIX\" href=\"http:\/\/www.inrix.com\/\">INRIX<b>\u00a0<\/b><\/a>estimates this year&#8217;s Memorial Day traffic will increase by 4% this year.\n\nThe National Safety Council has already estimated the traffic damage for the holiday weekend. \u00a0What do they predict? \u00a0Well, they believe there will be 420 traffic fatalities\u00a0with an added 42,000 projected medically consulted injuries.\n\nOn the plus side, the NSC believes that 149 lives will be saved due to seat belts&#8211;but don&#8217;t hold your breath. \u00a0Another 107 lives\u00a0<em>could\u00a0<\/em>be saved if everyone wore a seat belt. \u00a0So, wear your seat belt!\n\nDon&#8217;t just brush off these statistics as a one time prediction. \u00a0The NSC has been calculating Memorial Day traffic statistics over the past six years, and found that fatalities from crashes during the Memorial Day holiday period make up 12.86% of the total fatalities in the month of May.\n\nOver the past six years, the average number of traffic deaths during the Memorial Day holiday weekend was also 13.1% higher than the average number of traffic deaths in the month of May. \u00a0This means the risks on the road during this particular holiday weekend is 5% greater than any other weekend in May. \u00a0The \u00a0amount of traffic fatalities in May is about 2,921 to 3,421.\n\nThe proposed fraction of traffic fatalities for the Memorial Day holiday weekend is 12.26% to 13.47%, which means an estimate of 358 to 461 traffic deaths.\n\n<figure id=\"attachment_472\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-472\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trafficsafetystore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/themes\/toolbox\/images\/CIOT_daynight.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-472 lazyload\" alt=\"via. drivesafecv.com\" data-src=\"https:\/\/staging.trafficsafetystore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/CIOT_daynight-300x300.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.trafficsafetystore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/CIOT_daynight-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/staging.trafficsafetystore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/CIOT_daynight-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/staging.trafficsafetystore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/CIOT_daynight-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/staging.trafficsafetystore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/CIOT_daynight.jpg 900w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/300;\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-472\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">via. drivesafecv.com<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n&nbsp;\n\nIf these statistics aren&#8217;t enough to get you worried about holiday traffic safety&#8211;never fear. \u00a0The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will also run its\u00a0<a title=\"Click It or Ticket\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nhtsa.gov\/nhtsa\/2013ciot\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Click It or Ticket&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0campaign from May 21 to June 3. \u00a0The &#8220;Click It or Ticket&#8221; campaign has\u00a0contributed to increasing the use of safety belts across the country.
