The best approach that many policy makers have found is to integrate IoT devices into traffic equipment like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trafficsafetystore.com\/traffic-cones\">safety cones<\/a> that will communicate with self-driving cars and still alert human drivers of dangerous road conditions.\u00a0<\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With self-driving vehicle testing facilities beginning to dot the nation, it was only a matter of time before local politicians were forced to open the topic for debate. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To date, though, the topic of self-driving vehicles have stopped at the debate phase. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Only five states have actually passed laws admitting self-driving vehicles onto their roads. The \u201cpublic roads\u201d in question only apply to a few streets in the vicinity of a<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/arstechnica.com\/cars\/2016\/10\/steering-wheel-is-optional-with-californias-self-driving-pilot-program\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> privately owned business park in Contra Costa<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In addition, the vehicles are not allowed to go more than 35 miles per hour on any occasion. Those laws uniformly require automated vehicles to provide an \u201coperator\u201d to take over in the event of an accident. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Early in the development of prototype self-driving vehicles, that stipulation may have seemed a no-brainer, but the technology behind automated vehicles has advanced so rapidly that an \u201coperator\u201d is almost more of a handicap than a help. California is currently looking into how outfit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trafficsafetystore.com\/traffic-cones\">hazard cones<\/a> with advanced technology to communicate with autonomous cars on the road.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For that reason, perhaps the biggest change California has allowed in its revised law is the ability to remove operators from the vehicle themselves. This one change will allow companies to test brand new models on real city streets. On the other hand, it seems that California is more than ready to set the future standard when it comes to procedures that govern automated vehicles.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First and foremost, California holds a position as the nation\u2019s<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/views\/2015\/10\/16\/spate-new-laws-california-may-be-most-progressive-state-nation\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> innovator in progressive legislation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Whether you agree with the way they do things or not, California is the first state to take a step on a lot of laws that set national trends. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most obvious example that comes to mind is the passage of medical marijuana regulations in 1996 that have, in the years since, sparked something of a slow about face when it comes to the once taboo substance.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No matter the topic, financial specialists have stated that California\u2019s legislation can have a marked impact on the future laws<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.modernhealthcare.com\/article\/20160901\/NEWS\/160909980\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> discussed and implemented by other states<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In other words, there\u2019s a litany of examples that point to the fact that California\u2019s new law won\u2019t be the last of its kind.<\/span><\/p><h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Self-Driving Cars are the Wave of the Future<\/span><\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A world where human drivers aren\u2019t mucking things up is becoming increasingly inevitable. California\u2019s innovative legislation may very well be mirrored in statehouses across the nation, especially as more and more companies begin testing their own take on the autonomous vehicle.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In recent weeks, both<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.techtimes.com\/articles\/180256\/20161002\/volvo-to-start-selling-self-driving-cars-in-5-years-silicon-valley-research-center-ready-to-start-work.htm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Volvo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/thetechnews.com\/2016\/10\/02\/volkswagens-self-driving-electric-car-called-d-will-seen-2020\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Volkswagen<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have publicly pledged to get self-driving vehicles on the road inside the next five years.
